Denver Crime Rate Figures Mirror National Drop

The crime rate dropped throughout Colorado during the first six months of 2007, mirroring a trend nationwide, according to preliminary figures from the FBI.

Overall, violent crime fell 1.8 percent nationwide from January through June.

Of the large Colorado cities studied, only Pueblo saw a crime-rate increase.

Denver dropped by more than 20 percent, from 2,196 cases in the first six months of 2006 to 1,748 during that same time a year ago.

Aurora saw its violent crime decrease by 8.6 percent.

Throughout the United States, violent crime fell in all four regions and in each of the four offense categories.

Nationally, murder and non-negligent manslaughter dropped 1.1 percent, forcible rape 6.1 percent, robbery 1.2 percent and aggravated assault 1.7 percent.
