HB 1351, 1321 and SB 286 Signed Into Law Today
Governor Ritter signed three of the bill we supported today.
SB 286 mandates the study of sentencing in Colorado by the Commission of Criminal and Juvenile Justice. Hopefully, this will lead directly to legislation in 2010.
HB 1351 increases earned time from 10 to 12 days for some people in prison and also creates an opportunity for the parole board to release people up to 60 days before their MRD.
HB 1321 keeps juveniles out of adult jails.

This is good to know. I hope Gov. Ritter is committed to reform. This will not only reduce the amount of incarcerations, it will encourage education and balance the budget crisis. Human beings should never be considered an income source for a few while ignoring the potential and productivity many of those sentenced to prison would be as citizens of society.
Education and guidance would be highly beneficial for the welfare of all citizens and create an enhanced economy for Colorado.
I agree totally with the above article but wish Ritter would work to do away with the Colorado 3 year mandatory parole which is a second sentence to the one the judge already dished out!!! How a bout it Ritter??? djw
djw. Yes. Mandatory parole is DOUBLE JEOPARDY. More money for the system. The system being those in political favor and power. It is NOT about "public safety" which he and his ilk enjoy spouting off every time a reasonable question can't be answered.
The CDOC meeting is coming up June 16 at DWCF. Should you decide to attend, you will hear those words, "public safety" again and again.
It begs to question: to laugh or scream?
