126 Sick in Pueblo Jail

PUEBLO — Sheriff Kirk Taylor says 126 inmates in the Pueblo County Jail are sick with diarrhea and vomiting, and health officials are trying to find the cause.

The first inmates became ill Tuesday night and more got sick today.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Lisa Shorter says the symptoms are consistent with a possible food-borne illness.

The Pueblo City-County Health Department is testing the inmates for bacteria and viruses.

Taylor says jail employees have begun an intense sanitation process on top of their routine cleaning.
