Who is the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition?

Our mission is to reverse the trend of mass incarceration in Colorado. We are a coalition of nearly 7,000 individual members and over 100 faith and community organizations who have united to stop perpetual prison expansion in Colorado through policy and sentence reform.

Our chief areas of interest include drug policy reform, women in prison, racial injustice, the impact of incarceration on children and families, the problems associated with re-entry and stopping the practice of using private prisons in our state.

Violent Crime Up - Property Crime Down

Another voice in the chorus of how mass incarceration hasn't worked to make us safer.

Reports of property crimes, including burglary, larceny and motor vehicle thefts, are down significantly in many of Colorado's biggest cities, according to preliminary 2006 crime data released today by the FBI.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that violent crime is rising some, especially in Colorado Springs, where concerns about robberies and aggravated assaults have received federal attention.

The overall increase in violent crime is consistent with what the rest of the Rocky Mountain region is experiencing. The West saw the biggest hike, 2.8 percent, as compared to other parts of the U.S.
