Denver Tops Nation In Teen Drug and Alcohol Related Crashes

Denver ranks first in the nation for fatal alcohol- and drug-related car crashes involving teenagers, according to a study released Thursday by Allstate Insurance Co.

When drugs and alcohol aren't factors, however, the city ranks 60th for crashes that kill teens, the survey of the nation's 100 largest metro regions indicated.

The study found that speed is a cause in 42.5 percent of the Denver region's fatal teen crashes, 21.2 percent involve alcohol, and 10.6 percent are drug-related.

Failure to wear a seat belt was a factor in 38.1 percent of the fatalities.

Sixty-five percent of the time, the victims in Colorado fatal teen crashes are boys, the study found.

Sad to know that Denver ranks first in the nation for fatal alcohol- and drug-related car crashes. The police should be more strict about teen driving whith alcohol and age for driving should be above 22yrs.
