Cops: Armed man who charged Denver officers fatally shot - The Denver Post

A man armed with a knife and a meat cleaver "charged" Denver police officers this morning and was fatally shot.

The incident happened around 1:45 a.m. in the Stapleton neighborhood, said Sonny Jackson, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

Police were called to the 2700 block of Ulster Street on a report of a family disturbance involving a man armed with a knife, Jackson said.

When police arrived they encountered a man armed with a knife and a meat cleaver, Jackson said.

Officers tried to speak with the man but he charged at them. One officer fired a "less lethal" round, a large rubber ball, in an attempt to stop and subdue him, but it didn't work, Jackson said.
