Denver police detective fired for mishandling information in fatal crash - The Denver Post

Denver's Manager of Safety Charles Garcia has fired Det. Jay Estrada, who was accused of mishandling information in the case of a pregnant woman who lost her baby in a hit-and-run accident.

Estrada was assigned to the traffic-accident investigations team in December 2010, when Laura Gorham, then 27, was hit as she crossed a street in the Stapleton neighborhood. Police have so far not made an arrest in the case.

"That is still a very open and active investigation," police spokesman Det. John White said.

Estrada couldn't be reached for comment.

Garcia signed an order today terminating Estrada for commission of a deceptive act.

Gorham said she wouldn't comment on the firing. She has recovered and is working as a pediatric intern at The Children's Hospital.
