Who is the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition?

Our mission is to reverse the trend of mass incarceration in Colorado. We are a coalition of nearly 7,000 individual members and over 100 faith and community organizations who have united to stop perpetual prison expansion in Colorado through policy and sentence reform.

Our chief areas of interest include drug policy reform, women in prison, racial injustice, the impact of incarceration on children and families, the problems associated with re-entry and stopping the practice of using private prisons in our state.

Clarification on SB 83

Several people have read SB 83 and have not been able to find the parolee voting information. That piece is an amendment to the original bill. What it says is that we should change the statute to read (basically), "You cannot vote if you are confined in a public prison." Right now the statute reads "if you are confined to a public prison or on parole."

Thanks. With this tip I was able to find the relevant language in the February 12, 2007 portion of the Senate Journal at the General Assembly website on page 235.
