Who is the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition?

Our mission is to reverse the trend of mass incarceration in Colorado. We are a coalition of nearly 7,000 individual members and over 100 faith and community organizations who have united to stop perpetual prison expansion in Colorado through policy and sentence reform.

Our chief areas of interest include drug policy reform, women in prison, racial injustice, the impact of incarceration on children and families, the problems associated with re-entry and stopping the practice of using private prisons in our state.

Pet Projects Lose Out to Prison

CCJRC filed the lawsuit that kept CSP II from being built. We don't believe we need another maximum security prison. The money that is going to be used can be spent on much better things.

DENVER - The additional money that the Colorado Department of Corrections needs to start its planned expansion of the state penitentiary in Canon City became a funding football on Thursday.

In its final approval of its annual priority list, the Legislature's Capital Development Committee kicked back to the Joint Budget Committee the decision on what to do about the extra $36.8 million the department needs to begin construction of its 980-bed Colorado State Penitentiary II project that DOC has been trying to build for the past four years.

CDC members sought to use lobbyists and government liaisons, whose projects didn't get funded, to help them pressure the JBC for more money - approximately $100 million more.
