Yes on 100 Debate Cancelled
The Initiated Question 100 debate that was scheduled to take place at the University of Denver this Thursday, October 11, has been postponed because... get this... the organizers could not find anyone willing to serve as an opponent.
Organizers of the DU debate (the Young Democrats) contacted the Denver City Council, the Mayor, the District Attorney's Office, the Attorney General's Office, the Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and some anti-marijuana groups, and all of them declined to participate.
The student group is determined to hold a debate on the issue, so they hope to reschedule it for some time during the week of October 22. We will be sure to let everyone know the new date for the event as soon one is confirmed.
In other news, Initiated Question 100 will be featured on the Denver NBC affiliate's weekend program, "Your Show," this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. MDT on Comcast Channel 3. The show will feature a short, live debate between YES on 100 Campaign Director Mason Tvert and an opponent to be determined. We'll see if they have better luck finding someone...

This column has said it well many times. The politicians want to look tough on crime, but when it comes to facing issues in an environment that would not be friendly to them, they dont show up.
Gov Ritter wants to appear compassionate and gets $6M for "drug rehab", but then turns around and pays off his political prison industry friends with a new, unneeded $165M prison, along with unneeded operating costs.
The Parole Board Chair talks about getting prisoners to rehab, but he and his board members are revoking and keeping prisoners far past their release dates to help keep the prisons full and the DOC working...on doing nothing.
you cant believe politicians ,its big business to lock people up ,just think of all of those people in towns like crowley,sterling,limon and the rest who would be out of jobs if they didnt lock people up for no reason or if just half of the released prisoners were sucesfull in staying out ,all these people would be out of jobs,this govenor is a joke just like the rest ,remember he was a prosecutor so what did anybody expect....
