SB 83 Parolee Voting Passed The Senate

Congratulations!!! YOU DID IT!!! SB 83 (progressive election reform, including
allowing people on parole to vote) PASSED the Senate today on a 21-14 vote.
All of the Democrats and one Republican voted in support.

Your calls and emails made all the difference in the world and we could
not have done it without your help.

We are deeply grateful to the bill sponsor, Senator Ron Tupa (D-Boulder),
for all his hard work and commitment to this bill. We are also
deeply grateful to Senator Ken Gordon (D-Denver) who worked
exceptionally hard to keep the parolee voting provision in the bill
in the face of multiple attempts to strip it out.

We also wanted to share information from Senator Schwartz who we
indicated was leaning against voting for SB 83 in our last action alert.
Senator Schwartz said that she has always supported allowing people on

parole to vote but she wanted to consider the concerns raised by the
county clerks in her district. Ultimately, she voted in support of SB 83
and we are appreciative for her thoughtful consideration of SB 83.

SB 83 is headed for the House and we will keep you posted.
