Thanks to Grits for Breakfast keeps us updated on what's going on with the debacle at Texas Youth Corrections.
Grits Article HereAUSTIN, Texas: Under pressure from accusations that its employees sexually and physically abused their young inmates, Texas' juvenile prison system plans to release more than 550 inmates who have completed their minimum sentences and have not caused trouble, officials said.
The Texas Youth Commission is accused of having employees who knew about the problem but did nothing to stop it.
The system holds about 4,700 offenders ages 10 to 21 who are considered the most dangerous, incorrigible or chronic.
The inmates will be released in the coming week, as soon as agency officials are able to line up the services they will need in the community, including parole supervision and counseling, agency spokesman Jim Hurley said.
