Who is the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition?

Our mission is to reverse the trend of mass incarceration in Colorado. We are a coalition of nearly 7,000 individual members and over 100 faith and community organizations who have united to stop perpetual prison expansion in Colorado through policy and sentence reform.

Our chief areas of interest include drug policy reform, women in prison, racial injustice, the impact of incarceration on children and families, the problems associated with re-entry and stopping the practice of using private prisons in our state.

Wyoming Prisons Understaffed and Dangerous

This just goes to show that you can't just continue to build prisons and expect them to be staffed. Colorado is planning on building more private prisons in Ault and Hudson and prisons in these rural areas, and in some cases this will double the populations of the towns that they are building in. It's already become a problem in this state and CCA has had to pay fines for understaffing it's prisons in Colorado. There is also a new state prison to be built in Fremont County, CSP II and there are concerns that staffing is going to be a problem there.

CHEYENNE - More than one-third of the authorized security positions at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins are currently vacant, and the American Civil Liberties Union says staffing problems may pose a danger to staff and prisoners.

The Rawlins prison is authorized to have 322 employees in security positions but has 116 vacancies - more than 36 percent of authorized positions - department spokeswoman Melinda Brazzale said Monday. Of those vacancies, she said 107 are in correctional officer positions. Rocky Article Here
