Hudson Tries to Stop Private Prison

I recieved this last night. There is movement currently going on in Hudson to stop Cornell from building a private prison in their town.

On March 7, 2007, there was an annexation hearing @ the Hudson Town Hall regarding land to be annexed into Hudson with the intent to put a private women's for-profit prison on the land. Since Weld County passed a Home Rule charter approx. 10 years ago, that won't allow a prison to go in Weld County without a vote of the people, Hudson is annexing this land to go around that.

The annexation hearing was continued until April 4, this Wednesday, which raises several concerns:

1) No public notice of the continuation hearing has been made.

2) There isn't a sign on the land regarding the annexation.

3) On March 7, there was over 50 people in the Town Hall which has an occupancy of 50, (and isn't up to date on fire codes since 1997 according to the Hudson Fire District Chef Blackston). At the March 7th meeting, there was only one entrance/exit operational and there wasn't room for everyone to participate.

4) They won't move the hearing to another location so that the public can get in or hear what is going on and it's in an unsafe building.

This appears to be against the Sunshine Laws of this state.

This is a big issue for a small town and it doesn't seem like the town is complying with the state laws regarding this hearing and other issues surrounding this matter. Including informing the citizens of Hudson of what is going on.

I personally have spent 15 plus hours just @ Town Hall doing open records acts trying to dig up the facts and shed some light on what's going on. I feel the town board and administration are trying to use intimidation tactics to stop us from looking into the facts.
